After the sailing off Circe's island, Odysseus and the crew sail off to The Land of the Dead. "Odysseus and his crew set out fir the land of the dead. They arrive and find the lace to which Circe has directed them (collection 6 pg 388)''
When Odysseus finally lands he has to be ready to make a slaughter/ sacrifice something that is to value. '"Then I addressed the blurred and breathless dead, vowing to slaughter my best heifer for them before she calved... ( Homer 1-3)"
Odysseus has to sacrifie a black lam. This sacrifice is to calm the dead. '"I swore to sacrifice a black lamb, handsomest of all our flock. Thus to assuage the nation of the dead.'(Homer 5-7)"
While in the cave Odysseus sees many of the dead. The dead all gather up together. "Now the oils gathered, string out of Erebus, brides and young men, and men grown old in pain and tender girls whose hearts were new to grief...( Homer 10-13)"
Odysseus finds Tiresias who is the prophet. He gives Odysseus travel advice. "' Halt, and implant your smooth oar in the turf and make fair sacrifice to Lord Poseidon: a ram, a bull, a great buck boar; turn back, and carry out pure hecatombs at home...(Homer 107-111)"
While leaving Odysseus sees his deceased mother. She then talks to him. Odysseus speaks to the shade of his mother. She tells him that Penelope and Telemachus are still grieving for him and that his father, Laertes, has moved to the country, where he, too, mourns his son. (collection 6 page 391)
