• Howdee Partner my name is Phil, welcome to Pepperidge farm! We are a Carrot farm, and we plant and harvest 2,000 tons of Carrots a year﻿.
• ﻿Here is my son Jack, he has graduated from high school this year and will now be helping us out on the farm.
• Hey, it's Jack. I just graduated from high school and will now be working on the farm full time! With the extra help on the farm, we can expect to increase Carrot harvesting by 5%﻿.
• ﻿Due to my high school education, I have a solid knowledge of pre-calc! Using Pert I can figure out how many carrots we can grow a year at Pepperidge Farm! The Equation is determined as A=P^(r)(t). In this equation, A= the final amount, P= original amount, r= rate that the amount is increasing or decreasing, and t=time (in years).
• Thanks Jack, so with you joining us full time, which would increase our Carrot harvesting rate by 5% a year, How many carrots will we have harvested in tons in 15 years?﻿
• Well first of all, we would plug 2,000 into P for our original value which is the amount of tons of carrots that we harvest currently.﻿ Then we would plug 5 into r as we will be increasing at a rate of 5% a year. After that we would plug 15 into t as you want to know the amount in 15 years.
• After plugging in all of this information, our equation would be: A= 2,000e^(.05)(15). Once we plug this into the calculator we find out that our answer would be 4,234 tons. So in 15 years that is how many tons of carrots we will be harvesting a year if we follow the rate of increasing by 5% a year.
