During the autumn of 1641, Parliament created new laws as an effort to limit royal power. A furious Charles tried arresting Parliament’s leaders in January 1642, but he failed and they escaped. An Equally furious mob of Londoners raged outside the palace, forcing Charles to flee to London.
Charles I was captured by Oliver Cromwell and held as a prisoner in 1647, in 1649 he was found guilty of treason against the parliament and was sentenced to death.
Almost immediately after getting reins of power Cromwell had to put down rebellions in Ireland as the Irish were under British rule. In 1649, Cromwell landed on Irish shores with his army and demolished the uprising, seizing land and homes of Irish and gifting them to the English soldiers. Fighting, plague, and famine killed hundreds of thousands.
