Storyboard Text

  • Taxes
  • If you don't pay up you and your family will end up in Hell.
  • The King taxes us too hard, how can I provide for my family?
  • Starvation
  • We have no food, me and my child will starve.
  • Enlightenment Philosophies
  • Rousseau's ideas on government and social contract should be applied by the King.
  • I doubt the King would listen.
  • We should change the government ourselves if he won't listen.
  • The King taxed the third estate unfairly and often left people with little food or money.
  • Estates General Meeting/Tennis Court Oath
  • What shall we do Robespierre? We've been locked out!
  • We'll meet here and start our own government!!!
  • Because of rising prices and heavy taxation, most of the Third Estate starved.
  • Storming of the Bastille
  • Enlightenment philosophies often included democratic or republic ideas and popular sovereignty which many people agreed with.
  • Women's March to Versailles
  • The Estates-General locked out the members of the Third Estate and so they met in an indoor tennis court where they began their new government.
  • The Bastille was a prison and a symbol of the kings rule, because of this significance, a large mob of people went to it, attacked the troops stationed there, and dismantled it brick by brick.
  • Halt!
  • Angry about the high prices and scarcity of food, a group of women from Paris' marketplace marched to the palace at Versailles and took the king and his family back to Paris.
  • Bring us the king!
