In chapter 40, Elizabeth has just come home from visiting her friend Charlotte. She has finally met up with her sister, Jane. She cannot wait to tell her sister all that happened when she was visiting Charlotte. Mr.Darcy, a family acquaintance who they all thought was proud and rude, proposed to Lizzy. Another family acquaintance, Mr. Wickham was revealed to be a total jerk, who only wanted money.
In Chapter 41, Lydia is invited to go to Brighton, where all of the soldiers are, by Mrs. Forster. She ecstatically accepted. Also in this chapter, Elizabeth goes and tell her dad what a bad idea she thinks this is. I have to agree. With Lydia's previous behavior in mind, I think that something is going to go terribly wrong and she is going to embarass her family.
Also in Chapter 41, Mr. Wickham visits the Bennet house one last time. The whole time she pretty much sings Mr. Darcy's praises, which is awkward because Mr. Darcy and Mr. Wickham don't like each other. Elizabeth knows this and kind of tries to make him uncomfortable while still staying civil. They part perfectly fine, but with neither really wanting to continue the friendship/relationship. Soon following Wickham's depature, Lydia also leaves.
At some point earlier in the story, it was decided that Lizzy would go with her aunt, Mrs. Gardiner, and her uncle, Mr. Gardiner, to the Lakes. In Chapter 42, its decided that they don't have the time to do this, so they decide to go to Derbyshire and Pemberley, where Mr. Darcy lives. Lizzy only agrees to this because Mr. Darcy isn't supposed to be there. I think he will be and it will be extremely awkward.
