It seems Aspen is struggling. We need to discuss options to help her succeed in the classroom

Mrs. Schwartz is a 3rd grade teacher at Pinewood Elementary school. She has started universal screening for her class in hopes of finding students at risk to help them get the assistance they need.
Aspen is a student in Mrs. Schwartz's 3rd grade class. She is struggling to read and has started to fall behind her other classmates. Mrs. Schwartz is concerned and decides to contact her specialist team.
This covers 10-15% of students!
Mrs. Schwartz presents her findings to the specialist team and together they discuss the next steps for Aspen. They settle on contacting her parents and mentioning the Tier 2 program.
Mrs. Schwartz sets up a meeting with Aspen and her parents and decide that based on her teams recommendation, starting Secondary Intervention for Aspen will set her up for success in the future
While still being in the general classroom, Aspen is placed in a small group taught by Mr. Larsen. For the next 6-8 weeks, he will monitor Aspen's progress and determine if she should go back to the General Ed classroom or move on to the next tier
After 6-8 weeks in Mr. Larsen's class, Aspen's confidence has grown and her reading ability has blossomed. With this specialized help from her teachers, the specialists and her parents she has been placed back into the GenEd class!
