  • "In this scene Phillip wants to stay and see the war but his mom said that they have to leave and not stay, but then they went on a boat and left. In the text it states, " Mother said, "It's too dangerous to stay here now."
  • Climax
  •  In this scene Phillip was on the boat until they were torpedoed at about three o'clock in the morning on April 6, 1942, two days after they left Panama and Phillip got knocked out. In the text it states, " We were torpedoed at about three o'clock in the morning on April 6, 1942, two days after leaving Panama".
  • Falling action 
  • After landing on deserted cay, Phillip and Timothy struggle to get along due to Phillip's anger and racism. Gradually, however, Phillip learns to appreciate Timothy and the two work together to survive on the island. Timothy teaches Phillip how to get food, water, and fire in spite of his business.
  • Resolution
  • In July , a hurricane hits the cay. Timothy is prepared for it and secures their knifes and fish hooks, then ties Phillip and himself to a tree. They survive the hurricane, but the storm weakens Timothy and he dies a few hours later.
