  • ELECTION OF ABRAHAM LINCOLN
  • I, Abraham Lincoln, will abolish slavery and make United States a slave free country!
  • The south thought the federal government would ban slavery if they think of it to be an issue, as the  federal government was  North predominated. 
  • SECESSION
  • You are not allowed to do that. Give up, or we will use force!
  • We Southern States are seceding from this nation!
  • The Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854, which allowed the states to choose whether they would be a slave state by popular   sovereignty, made people from both sides coming to Kansas to vote, which led to many skirmishes and fights    between the  groups, and death of more than 200. 
  • HARPER'S FERRY 
  • Al right guys, we will raid Harper's Ferry, and arm and free the slaves. This is a revolution, and we must succeed.

  • In 1860's election, the the anti-slavery republic party's candidate, Abraham Lincoln  won the election rather than the democratic candidate. This also leads to the secession of the South as they believed Lincoln would abolish slavery.

  • The southern states  wanting to secede and leave the nation and form their own country said that they had the right to leave, while the Northern states said otherwise and sent troops to southern states to stop them from seceding, which led to the start of the Civil War. 
  •  In 1859, John Brown with some companions led a raid of a government arsenal at Harper's Ferry, Virginia, with the intention of arming slaves and starting a revolt. He became a hero of the abolitionists in the Civil War. Brown was considered a martyr    by some and a madman by others.
  • The invention of the cotton gin increased the number of slaves in America, as one if every seven American was owned by another American. The northern states thought slavery was unethical and wanted to ban it in US, while for South it was their way of income and life.
