But how did this all start?
I recognize that some of Haiti's major issues are because of my political policies and interventions.
Haiti and the U.S. have always had a rocky relationship. In fact, Haiti was only acknowledged as a nation after Abraham Lincoln signed the order of Emancipation Proclamation during the Civil War.
Former dictator Papa Doc and his son Baby Doc would take millions of dollars in loans and spend the money on themselves- rather than for their nation.
In 1994, there was a military coup against the newly elected president which resulted in many brutal deaths.
Operation "Uphold Democracy" gave Haiti monetary aid so that they could rebuild and fix their government
The operation was viewed as a success because it had no civilian casualties. However, there was another military coup in 2004, proving that there was no change in the 10-year period.
