Our government here in Rome is called a republic. In a republic we elect people to represent us. In the republic the two most important officials in all of Rome are called consuls, and they serve for one year. The officials that advise the consuls are called the senate and they serve for life. In Roman society there are plebeians, which are the common people of Rome, and the patricians, who are the nobility in Rome. Plebeians elect Tribunes to serve for them and they have the power to veto. We have a set of laws called the twelve tables. They are recorded and posted in public for everyone to see.

Next, people started to forget their morals and their past and became corrupt. Lastly, there were so many invaders trying to attack them. Each time Rome was attacked they became weaker and it became more expensive to fix the damage.
