  • Our government here in Rome is called a republic. In a republic we elect people to represent us. In the republic the two most important officials in all of Rome are called consuls, and they serve for one year. The officials that advise the consuls are called the senate and they serve for life. In Roman society there are plebeians, which are the common people of Rome, and the patricians, who are the nobility in Rome. Plebeians elect Tribunes to serve for them and they have the power to veto. We have a set of laws called the twelve tables. They are recorded and posted in public for everyone to see.
  • Behind me here is an aqueduct. It was a very important structure used to provide fresh water to villages and move nasty water to the sewers. The romans also invented the arches which is used by many buildings to support weight and build higher. As you can see, it is also being used in the aqueduct. The Romans built roads to connect cities, guide military, and trade.

  • Rome fought wars with Carthage for the control of trade called Punic wars. Rome won and gained control of the Mediterranean. Rome starts to take control of even more land and spread their culture. They use natural barriers like the Alps to try to protect themselves from invasions.
  • There were many reasons that Rome fell. Firstly, the taxes were too high. There were too many people in the empire and it started to overcrowd so much that they couldn't afford it. Next, people started to forget their morals and their past and became corrupt. Lastly, there were so many invaders trying to attack them. Each time Rome was attacked they became weaker and it became more expensive to fix the damage.
  • Constantinople was a large city in Europe. Constantinople played a very important role in trading, especially spices. Rulers began to rebuild churches and palaces and they were used to study Greek history and literature . There was a ;large church in Constantinople that meant Holy wisdom, named the Hagia Sophia. The major art form in the Byzantine Empire was called mosaic. It was made out of pieces of glass to make a portrait. The Byzantine Empire preserved Greek and Roman culture for so many future generations. The Turks used artillery to tear down the walls that people thought were not possible to break. Once they took over the Byzantine Empire they highered the prices of exotic items used to trade. They took over the religion of Christianity. People of Constantinople used the sea routes to gain the trade items back. This was the rise and fall of Constantinople
