  • The main characters are Mr White, Mrs White, Herbert White and Sergeant-Major Morris. The story takes place in the White's house in England during the late 1800s. The overall tone is suspenseful and evil. The White's learn about a magical monkey's paw.
  • Climax
  • The bolt, come down I can't reach it
  • The first conflict is Man vs. Fate. The White's receive a magical monkey's paw that can grant wishes and they are tempted to use it. The second conflict is Man vs. Self. Mr. White is torn between his devotion to to wife and family by making another wish.
  • Falling Action
  • The White's receive a magical monkey's paw that can grant wishes. Mr. White wishes for 200 pounds, he received it but at the cost of his son Herbert's life. Mrs. White insists Mr. White use the second wish to wish Herbert back alive so he does.
  • Resolution
  • Something, believed to be a resurrected Herbert, comes knocking at the door. Mrs. White hears the knocking and runs to open the door despite Mr. White trying to stop her. Mr. White frantically begins searching for the monkey's paw while his wife tries to open the door
  • Mr. White finds the monkey's paw, and he makes his final wish. The knocking stops as Mrs. White opens the door. Mrs. White opens the door, but nothing is there.
  • Upon hearing Mrs. White's wail of disappointment, Mr. White is left in misery as she and her husband walk to their gate outside their home with Mrs. White still hoping to see Herbert somehow. Mr. White was relieved that the knocker was gone.
