Nana wants to teach Mariam how men are all the same. She wants Mariam to understand that even though her dad acts loving towards her, hes still a man and will never take the blame, and will let it fall onto a women.
Since Mariam's mother, Nana died, her father wants her to be married off. They rush the process just so Mariam could go with her new husband, Rasheed. Mariam never got to say how she really felt about getting married because everyone else made the choices for her.
Mariam was cooking for Rasheed and he was very upset with her. He took out all his anger on her and forced her to eat rocks. He blamed her for losing there child and made her suffer.
