  • we are not ready for war so we will distance our self from the rest 
  • The Jay Treaty

  • go to London and make an agreement with the british 
  • we need America and Great Britain to go to war 
  • The XYZ Affairs
  • i need you to go ask france to to en these attacks 
  • but they refuse to talk to us they want a to pay them 
  •     Washington knew the united states wasn't prepared for war, so he announced a policy of neutrality(not choosing sides in a dispute of other countries) so they wouldn't have to aid either France or Great Britain

  •     French leaders wanted Great Britain to go into war with the United States since Great Britain refused to leave Ohio, But the Washington sent John Jay to London to settle things with the British, and they agreed to pull their troops from Ohio valley, France vied this as a violation of it's own treated with the United States

  • President Adams sent three representatives to France to ask the French to en attacks, French foreign minister Talleyrand refused to speck with them, but he sent agents to them know as X Y and Z and they weren't letting the Americans talk to them unless Talleyrand received a large sum of money as tribute, but Americans refused.

  • James Madison abandon isolationism, and congress declared war on Great Britain on July 17, with only 7,000 poorly trained men and a navy of only 16 ships 
  • NO MORE ISOLATIONISM I DECLARE WAR ON GREAT BRITAIN

  • Nobody really won the war, the Treaty of Ghent settled none of the issues that had led to the fight, nut the problems of impressment and ships seizures faded away as peace settled over Europe, but war still had important effects, first Indian resistance in the north west territory weakened after Tecumseh's death 
  • we will go back to isolationism, and turn our attention to Latin america and the Europe disagreement 
  • After the excitement of war, James Monroe relieved to return the nations to its policy of isolationism, Americans began to turn their attention away from Europe and directed it to what was happening in Latin America, and the revolt against Spain
