The Articles of Confederation are laws that were written after the American Revolution ended. Soon they realized that there were many weaknesses in the articles that needed to be changed.
Shays Rebellion happened in West Massachusetts, it was an armed uprising of the poorer population. They did not agree with the new terms by the state's government about tax and debt collection.
New Jersey Plan
Since there were many errors in the Articles of Confederation the Founding Fathers met back at Independence Hall in Philadelphia to revise them. There were 55 delegates that represented states, George Washington was unanimously elected the president.
Great Compromise and 3/5ths Compromise
The Virginia plan was known as the large state plan, it was drafted by James Madison. Each states representation would be proportional to their population.
The New Jersey plan proposed a single-house legislative branch. Each state would only have one vote, rather than the amount of votes being based off of population. This idea was introduced by William Paterson.
