After World War I ended in 1918, the Treaty of Versailles was created. This treaty was meant to create peace, but it was harsh against the Germans. It forced Germany to accept responsibility and pay reparations. This angered them, and eventually led to other events that caused World War I.
Adolf Hitler was thrown in jail after trying to overthrow the government. In prison, he wrote his book, "Mein Kampf," or "My struggle." He expressed his beliefs in the book. Little did anyone know how powerful Hitler would become, and how he would rule Germany.
