  • In 1789, King Louis XVI called a meeting of the Estates Gerneral. It was the first meeting ever called since 1614. The reason for this meeting was the French Government was having financial Troubles.
  • The March on Versailles
  • GIVE US BREAD!!
  • June 20, 1789 The Third Estate, who called themselves the National Assembly, took action in their own hands and took the Tennis Court Oath and would not return to France unless they had a new constitution for France.
  • The Reign of Terror
  • The fortress was used by french kings to imprison people and the people did not agree with them, making the Bastille a representation of angry nature of the monarchy.
  • The Rise of Naploen
  • October 5, 1789 nearly 6,000 angry working women-armed pitchforks,pikes etc.,Marched in the pouring rain from Paris to Versailles screaming and shouting for bread.
  • FOOD! NOW!
  • About 300,000 were arrested during the Reign of Terror. 17,000 were executed. Many were victims of mistaken identity or were falsely accused by their neighbors.
  • Napoleon quickly rose through the ranks of the military during the French Revolution from 1789-1799. After seizing political power in France in a 1799 coup d'etat the he crowned himself emperor in 1804.
