Everyone had a long day at work, and Frederick had not spoken to his friends, but was waiting for the right to say something. Just as he was about to say a word, he heard master Freedland call his name. He said that someone was here to see him. Frederick didn't know who could be here but followed Mr. Freedland into a cold, damp room. As soon as he entered he felt the lash of a whip against his legs, and the shouts of his friends calling for help. Douglass was surprised, and as he hit the floor he saw everything turn into a pit of darkness.
As Frederick woke up he first he saw John screaming to let him go, but then he saw Henry shout " I will not be tied up! You let go of me this instant!" As he vigorously tried to kick and punch, he saw one man pull man pull out a gun, and face it towards Henry's head as he said " If you don't shut up I will shoot you." John immediately shut his mouth and let himself be tied up. All six men eventually let us go, but we all knew that escaping tonight was nearly impossible and too risky. We all agreed to wait until another day to escape to our freedom.
Days turned into weeks, and weeks turned into years as the boys planned their next escape. They all knew that escaping was a very hard task, and would take a lot of stealth and skill to accomplish. Frederick, John, and Henry had a dream of escaping but knew that it wasn't for a long time away. They were not able to successfully escape slavery yet, but gained more hope and determination for trying again some other day.
