Daedalus is desperate to get off the Island of Crete and is trying to bribe ships to take him but there being closely inspected. Lines 1-9 " Several times he tried by bribery to stow away on one of the vessels...but King Minos kept strict watch over them"
When Icarus gathered all the feathers his father had asked for, Daedalus continued his idea and started building wings of wax, thread, and feathers. Lines 15-20 " I curas soon collected a huge pile of feathers. Daedalus them melted some wax and made a skeleton in the shape of a birds wing...Icarus played about on the beach happily while his father worked"
Daedalus has finished the wings and is now ready to take flight and escape form the Island of Crete and the grasp of King Minos. Lines 48-54 " He kissed Icarus and fastened the wings more securely to his son's shoulders...Daedalus' eyes filled with tears, and turning away, he soared into the sky, calling Icarus to follow"
While flying Icarus didn't follow his fathers instructions and flew to high so that his wings melted and he fell into the ocean. Lines 80-84 " Daedalus, crazed by anxiety, called to him," Icarus! Icarus my son where are you?" At last he saw the feathers floating from the sky, and soon his son plunged through the clouds into the sea. Daedalus hurried to save him but it was too late"
Daedalus buried his son with sorrow and would call this land Icaria in his memory. Lines 86-90 " Weeping bitterly, he buried his small son and called the land Icaria in his memory. Then with a flutter of wings, he once more took flight..."
There is a cost for every great success. Lines 88-90 " Then, with a flutter of wings, he once more took to the air, but the joy of his flight was gone and his victory over the air was bitter to him"
