  • Exposition
  • This is Charlie Gordon. He is 37 years old and lives in New York. He has special needs and wants to become smarter. On page 1 it said, "I am 37 years old and 2 weeks ago it was my birthday ." and on page 22 it said, "That's why im leaving New York for good."
  • Rising action
  • After Charlie takes the inkblot test, he is chosen for the operation. The operation was to make Charlie smarter. He even does maze runs with a mouse named Algernon. These tests are recorded by Dr.Strauss and Dr.Nemur In pg 2 it said, "Anyway that test made me feel worser than all the others because they did it over 10 times with differnet amazeds and Algernon won every time."

  • Charlie leaves New York so that no one knows who he was and what he did. In pg 22 it said, "That's why Im going away from New York for good." and "1m going someplace where nobody kmows that Charlie Gordon was once a genus and now he cant even reed a book or rite good."
  • Few weeks later Algernon starts to act strange. He bit Charlie and didn't solve puzzles like he used to. He dies because of the decrease of his brain size and IQ from the effect of the operation. In pg 18 it said, "His brain had decresed in weight and there was a general smooting out of celebral convuolutions as well as a deepening  and broading of brain fissures.
  • Charlie later writes his theory, Algernon-Gorgon effect to see what happend to Algernon and what will happen to him. Later his IQ starts to decrease rapidly and goes back to normal, like he used to be. In pg 22 it said, "I did a dumb thing today I forgot I wasnt in Miss Kinnians class at the adult center any more like I use to be."
