The next thing that will affect the smell of our mango is the molecular formula. In our case there are 10 C 20 H and two O. The two O is what will cause the sweet smell.
The fact that there is two oxygen and the molecule is fit in a certain sequence defines our molecule in the ester functional group. Functional groups are the patterns in the molecule that determine what smell the item will be.
-Ate -one -ol -ine
The suffix of the names is the next piece that a molecule has to fit into in order to smell. If a molecule is sweet, it will end with the suffix -ate.
The bonds in these molecules that smell sweet, have covalent bonds which are bonds that create a molecule. These bonds are that create the molecule make the sweet smelling molecule polar negative.
The dipole of this mango molecule would be facing the middle from each side as the Oxygen atoms which are located in the middle are the most negative.
Thanks dad for letting me know how things smell and also how I smell!
