Since Virginia is a bigger state, they wanted each state to be represented in proportion to the states' population. Their plan would contain a legaslative branch with two houses. Since New Jersey was a smaller state, they wanted each state to recieve one equal vote, regardless of size. Their plan would contain a legaslative branch with one house.
The Great Compromise was the final compromise that the US Costitution decided on. The Great Compromise had a legaslative branch with 2 houses, and the number of legislators in the Representative house was proportional to population. Each state is equally represented. The 3/5 Compromise made it so that non-slaves in the slaves states would recieve the benefit of increased representation in the House of Representatives. Slaves recieved 3/5 vote, so in every 5 people, they got 3 votes.
