King midas was trying to eat and drink , but he was unable to without turning the food or drink into gold. This caused him great pain and his daughter scurried over to comfort him. He leaned over to give her a kiss on the forehead, and cried out " My precious, precious Marygold" but she did not reply. She had been turned into a golden statue, with one tear running down her cheek.
The stranger reappeared and asked Midas how he's bee Midas responded with"I am very miserable". The stranger says "Have you not got everything that your heart desired?"Midas says "Gold is not everything". The stranger asked "the gift of the golden touch, or one cup of clear cold water". Midas quickly answered "Water!". The stranger then told him to go get water from the river to get rid of the golden touch.
He removed the goldtouch from everything , and lived a normal life from then on. He lived to be an old man, and had grandchildren whom he would tell this marvelous story to. His grandchildren's hair is a rich shade of gold, and tells them "ever since that morning, I have hated every sight of all other gold".
