  • The East India Company was founded in England in 1599 and soon began building trading warehouses in India.
  • At this time India was not united country.There were several small states within there own ruler. For the East India Company sometimes requested for permission to trade in Indian states but sometimes couldn't.
  • I rule all of India , I have the most power of them all . I have the strongest army
  • No you don't !
  • In the mean time ,the French had their own East India Company. Competition between the British and the French was rebellious . During 1700 it escalated into full scale war and the armies were forced into conflict.
  • The British ahs decided to agree that they would only help any Indian ruler who would inded help them trade as well as defeat any ruler who blocked their trade.
  • Well yes I certainly agree.
  • Okay , let's get to business.
  • During 1757 Robert Clive persuaded an Indian general to fight with him and defeat Sira-ud-Duala the ruler of Bengal.The battle was won and Sira-ud-Duala was captured and killed .This gave the British control of Bengal.
  • Robert Clive was known to be a true hero in England.In 2765 he was sent back to India to rule Bengal .From then on he took more and more Indian states under British control.The french were soon defeated and pushed away from India
