The long horns had big heavy horns it was able to protect itself from predators and would keep the cowboys safe. They became valuable as cattle when ranching grew in the late 1850’s. They were also resistant to the cattle disease known as Texas fever
Some new businesses opened to help the growing population. Some of the businesses offered gambling, and drinking which led to violence. These actions made some boomtowns dangerous to be in. So not many women and childern live there.
An advantage the railroad had was transporting goods. They didn't have to worry about the dirt that made mud when it rained ,or the fact that the water would get shallow for boats. Railroads also promised cheap and fast transportation for people. It was also cheaper to ship goods by railroad then wagon.
