Lewis Hine was an american sociologist and photographer.
He studied at Columbia University, University of Chicago and New York University.
HIne was part of the social realism art movement. He used his photography skills to draw attention to child labor and their working conditions.
CHILD LABOR NO LONGER LEGAL. Fair Labor Standards Act is passed to officially ban child labor.
He took pictures of the children in their work place to show the need for better conditions and laws against child labor.
"There is work that profits children, and there is work that brings profit only to employers. The object of employing children is not to train them, but to get high profits from their work." - Lewis Hine
Because of the action he took, he contributed to the making of the law past in 1938 that banned child labor. This law was called the Fair Labor Standards Act.
