The Puritans wrote this document in 1620 Heading to Virginia, the Mayflower encountered a big storm that threw them off course
The Puritans were in need of a government. This government is supposed to serve a common good. After the may flower landed, they realized they are no longer under the control of their employer and decided to make their own government.
This document brought upon an agreement on the law between individuals, also known as self-government. The people were living under a government that they all agreed on. The Puritans all came to an agreement on what their government should be like and that everyone shall follow the law.
