Storyboard Text

  • During October 2016 Uber were hit with a large cyber attack which they tried to cover up.
  • The attackers exposed the confidential data of  57 million customers and drivers.
  •
  • The hackers also stole personal data including names, email addresses and phone numbers of about 600,000 drivers in the United States.
  •
  • Uber tried and succeeded in concealing the attack and the public didn't find out about it until very recently.
  • In fact, Uber reportedly paid the attackers $100,000 to delete all the data that they stole and to keep the breach quiet.
  • However, once the attack became public knowledge, Uber were fined $148million and got a lot of hate because of how long they had kept it a secret despite the large amount of people who were affected.
