Athena tells Telemachus to go see his father for the first time. They both connect and Odysseus tells his son to go home and lock his weapons and armor up.
The Test of the Bow
While Eumaeus and Odysseus are talking, Odysseus sees his old dog, Argos. HE is amazed that he is treated so poorly, and asks his old fried why the dog was outside. It is explained that since the dog is old, he is treated like trash. After Argos sees his master back, he dies.
Death in the Great Halls
When Odysseus enters, he is treated badly by the suitors. Because she knows she can not hold off the suitors any longer, Penelope proposes a challenge. Who ever can string Odysseus's bow, and shoot an arrow through 12 ax heads, will be her husband.
The Trunk of the Olive Tree
Odysseus strings the bow without trouble, then shoots it through the 12 ax heads.
Odysseus, Telemachus, Eumaeus, and Philoetius proceed, and kill everyone of the over 100 suitors. Odysseus kills a man named Antinous first, and while everyone at first thinks it is a lucky shot, he reveals who he really is.
After Odysseus has killed all the suitors, he goes and finds Penelope. At first, she does not exactly believe it is him. She gives him a test, involving facts about his bed that he had made from a tree. After she has confirmed that he is her husband, they reunite.
