  • Dred Scott was born in Virginia as slave. He spent most of his years as a slave in Missouri.
  • Hi I'm Dred Scott.
  • Scott's first owner died and he got sold to Dr. John Emerson in 1831.
  • Hi I am Dr.John Emerson
  • Dr.John Emerson died and his slaves went to his wife Eliza Irene Sanford. When this happened the Scott's wanted to buy their freedom but Eliza refused so Scott went to court.   
  • We want our freedom!
  • NO 
  • Chief Justice Rodger B. Taney argued that since that he was not a citizen  he does not have the right to sue the court. He also said that slaves are property and property is protected by the 5th. Amendment.
  •  I am Chief Justice Rodger B. Taney
  • The Scott's lost the case so they went back as slaves to Mrs. Sanford. The End.
