- When the Indians started taking action and the popularity of the INC spread,this was not liked by the British and decided for the partition of states.
- Oh,My!
- Sir,The Indians are standing against us. The INC is growing more popular. What should we do?
- Okay sir!!!
- We should..Um.. use our ... Divide and rule policy. We should partition different states.
- Hence, they tried to supress its activites and weaken its efforts by using their Divide and Rule policy. They started dividing Indians in the name of religion so that they can continue to having control over India.

- Bengal was soon divided into 2 parts- West bengal for Hindus ....
- ... and East Bengal for Muslims.
- Lord Curzon explained that he partitoned Bengal because this was to establish improved administration,but the real reason was to divide the Indians in Bengal on the basis of religion.

- Meanwhile, the INC oppossed this partition.The whole nation was against it. This partition stimulated anti-British movements ,like the swadeshi movement and boycott movements.
