Etruscan Influence on Sports
Romulus and Remus are two twin brothers. Someone tried to kill them by sending them down a river. A wolf found them and took them as its own. They were raised by wolves for a few years until someone one found them. They were then taken back to their kingdom. Years later the king (their father) died. They took his place. Romulus and Remus fought about what to name the kingdom. They still acted like wolves in some ways so they fought to the death. Romulus won and Remus died. Romulus called the kingdom Rome. He ruled, and then when he died. Became a god.
Greek Influence on Architecture
The Romans adapted the arch from the Etruscan´s. The arch rested on two pillars and they supported two half circle shaped stones. They had to hold very tightly in place.
Greek Influence on Writing, Art, and Religion
One sport the Etruscan´s influenced is slave fighting. This is were two slaves fight in a bloody battle. They mostly did this at the funerals of their masters. The slaves would fight with swords and shields to death. The win would be congratulated. But they would be executed after words.
The Greeks influenced the use of columns. The Romans used some of the same designs as the Greeks in their own buildings. The Romans also used concrete in their buildings like the Greeks used marble. The Romans built the Colosseum out of concrete.
The Romans wrote in all capital letters like the Greeks. The Greeks carved important documents. The Romans craved inscriptions in walls and columns. Romans copied the Greek way of pottery. Romans made Greek gods their own, but changed their names.
