Storyboard Text

  • A Story of the Chinese Americans
  • By: Lindsey Godwin
  • Mid 1800s China- Many crop failures forced Chinese families to leave their country and head for America.
  • Honey, our crops are in great failure.
  • I think it is time to leave and go to America!
  • The Chinese immigrants travleled to America on overly crowded ships that were full of sick and dying people as the trip progressed.
  • I am so happy we are finally here! It has been a terribly long time on the boat! Hardly any food and extremely crowded!
  • Many Chinese Americans settled in California along the rivers. They would move often because of work.
  • Many of them became gold miners and contributed to the American Gold Rush. This provided them an opportunity for wealth
  • The Chinese faced many struggles while immigrating to America. One example would be the Chinese Exclusion Act that was in effect until 1942.
  • THE CHINESE EXCLUSION ACT {1882}
