Storyboard Text

  • To begin, individual replicated chromosomes become visible, sister chromatids join at their centromeres, and spindle fibers start to form.
  • Prophase I
  • Homologous chromosome line up along the equator of the cell, once lined up, the end of the spindle fibers attach to the centromere.
  • Metaphase I
  • The chromosome moves apart from one another along the spindle fiber to the opposite ends of the cell. Each new cell will only have one homologous pair.
  • Anaphase I
  • The spindle fiber disintegrates and cytokinesis begins. Two cells are created and each cell has half the number of chromosomes.
  • Telophase I
  • During this stage, the spindle fibers start to form at the poles again.
  • Prophase II
  • Chromosomes line up along the equator of the cell and each cell only has one of each homologous chromosome.
  • Metaphase II
