  • George was scolding Lennie on how much easier his life would be without him. Then Lennie had gotten sad and told George that he would leave to make him happier. They still stuck together no matter what because their friendship was strong.
  • Chapter 4
  • George and Lennie were being introduced to Slim and George told Lennie to stay quiet the whole time. Slim asked them how they stay together and then George said "we kinda look after each other." This shows that part of their friendship is protecting each other. 
  • Chapter 5
  • Slim and George were sitting casually and talking until Slim asked why him and Lennie had to leave Weed. George said "you wouldn't tell nobody?" This is shows that George is developing trust and friendship with Slim.
  • Chapter 6
  • Crooks said when talking to Lennie that what if George got hurt and he's not coming back. Lennie got scared, defensive, and angry hearing that and asked who hurt him. Lennie is showing that he cares about George and wants to protect him as a close friend.
  • After what Lennie had accidentally done George and Candy were talking about how their dream might not come true now. George was telling Candy about how he knows Lennie didn't do it out of angry but as an accident. Meaning George as his close friend knows he's not a bad person. 
  • Lennie was hiding by the river and then he started seeing Aunt Clara in his mind. She was telling him all the times George cared for him and helped him and he stills puts him in trouble. This shows that George tries his best to keep Lennie happy.
