  • WAR!
  • People used Yellow journalism so that they could exaggerate what is happening in Cuba. They did this so that they could get the US to be worried about Cuba and want to join the war.
  • LET US GO!
  • The USS Maine was sunk in the Havana harbor and this upset the U.S. and they accused Spain for sinking it.
  • Treaty
  • President McKinley did not want to fight in the war he wanted peace even though Spain sunk the USS Maine.
  • Trade!
  • The four demands to Spain were that they had to release the Cuban's from the concentration camps, the Cuban people had to be made independent. They wanted money for the USS Maine and a truce with Cuba
  • The U.S. made a treaty with Spain and it was sighed in Paris so that's why we called it the treaty of Paris.
  • After we made the treaty we gained a bunch of land. We had to pay 20 million dollars but we gained part of the Philippines, we gained Puerto Rico and we gained Guam.
