Storyboard Text

  • I am creating the Dawes Act which will allot land to Native Americans and make them be more like individuals and less a member of a tribe.
  • Feb 8th, 1887
  • Introducing the Dawes Act. Native Americans must register on ¨tribal roll¨ and each person or family will get their own land and they have to maintain it and start farm. If you show you can work to keep your land for the next five years, you will own it.
  • We need to enroll in The Bureau of Indian Affairs. I really dont want to leave our land since we just settled here.
  • Even I will get a little land!!
  • This is terrible! The land is not fit for farming and and we cannot afford the tools. We are starting to lose our Native American cultures.
  • I lost my land allotment since I was sent to boarding school. They are making me act like the white settlers, I miss my culture.
  • Look! They also made me change my clothes into an ¨American¨ style.
  • I can see a difference. The Native Americans are being forced to adapt to our culture.
