  • Precambrian Era (4.6 billion - 570 million years ago)
  • Paleozoic Era (570 - 225 million years ago)
  • Paleozoic Era - Origin of Oxygen on Earth
  • Also known as the “Hadean Eon.” Earth was formed from multiple planetary impacts  The surface is molten and uninhabitable (full of volcanoes, meteor impacts, etc.  The first single-celled bacteria are created from complex chemical reactions.  
  • Mesozoic Era (190 - 65 million years ago)
  • Earth cools over millions of years Rodinia is the first supercontinent to form Carbonaceous Chondrite (meteor) impacts bring water to Earth. Over time, the surface is covered with ocean water.
  • Cenozoic Era (2 million - present day)
  • Liquid water gives way to rapid cyanobacteria growth. Cyanobacteria or “Blue-Green Algae” is a single-celled organism that is credited with oxygenating Earth’s oceans.  Plant Respiration - release of oxygen as a byproduct of photosynthesis. 
  • Cenozoic Era (2 million - present day)
  • Terrestrial life is dominant on Earth and Pangea was formed.  This is the “Age of Dinosaurs” Diverse plant life and ocean organisms  First mammals
  • “Age of Mammals”      Mammals survive during the ice age with warm-blooded bodies and continue growing in size.      Human evolution Hunter-gathering nomadic tribes  Homosapeians outcompete neanderthals
