Safekeeping- Comic Strip/ November book project due 11.30.18
Radley, The main character, was caring for the children in an orphanage located in Haiti, when she heard news about how a new government began to arrest some of the people in her country.
She went home, to make sure her parents were okay, and when she tried to call them. She realized her phone had been dead, and she left her charger behind. After a lot of waiting, she finally just decided to walk home, starting the become worried. She didn't have much, she was able to find a few quarters left behind that she had found outside of the airport.
Once she finally reached her house, after days worth of walking, she was tired, worn out and had been living of the most she could find over the past few days. She explored the house to see if anyone had been there, and after not finding anyone, she ate and once again lived off the things she had found in the house, such as food from the pantry, blankets, and fresh clothing. She couldn't even find her cat, Romulus. After a few days of hiding, she went out again to search for her parents once more.
During her long journey though, she rescued a girl named Celia, who she later became good friends with, as they walked together to a safer place to stay in Canada. Celia also owned a dog, who's name was Jerry Lee.
Once they reached Canada, they settled in an old abandoned school house they had found while walking, and they lived off what a lady nearby had given them in the barn she owned. Some of the things she gave to them were soap, fresh clothing, and food. The lady got them a message that America was safe again.
Radley decided to go back home, get some of her things, and head back over to Haiti. She looked for her parents once more, when she heard they started releasing people ,but instead found one of her old friend Julian in the house, who had been taking care of Romulus. Julian told her her parents were murdered during the riots. After visiting Celia in Canada, Radley decided to return to Haiti and the orphanage
