At the beginning of the infamous speech, 'I have a Dream...' by MLK junior, there was a reference of Abraham Lincoln, through the Emancipation Proclamation in which he signed. This demonstrates Ethos because Abraham Lincoln was a president and role model to many and MLK used that to build credibility in his speech.
"And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all the flash shall see it together. This is our hope. This is the faith I go back to the South with." (King)
Martin Luther King Jr. talks about his four small children during his speech saying that he does not want them to go through the struggles and the hardships that he has. He says this to gain credibility by appealing to the audience's emotions.
"I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia sons of former slaves and sons of former slave-owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood." (King)
This quote is an example of Logos because he justifies his statement by quoting the "For Whites Only" signs He is saying that they cause many black Americans to feel ashamed and that it strips them of their dignity and their children's adulthood.
"In a sense we've come to our nation's capital to cash a check. When the architects of our Republic wrote the magnificent words of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence, they were signing a promissory note to which every American was to fall heir...black men as well as white men-would be guaranteed the unalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. " (King)
Martin Luther King Jr. mentions the Lord several times in his speech 'I Have a Dream' This is aimed toward all of the religious people listening to his speech to justify his belief with the Lord and how its God's black children have the same rights as God's white children. This is an example of Ethos because he uses the Lords name.
This is an example of pathos because he talks about brotherhood and about slaves and those are two topics that people definitely tug at peoples heartstrings.
Here MLK was explaining how every man, no matter the color of his skin, should be treated equal by mentioning and quoting the Constitution and Declaration of Independence and the people who wrote them. This is an example of logos.
