In the Gupta empire, many people paint paintings called Ajanta. These are cave murals that show something from the Buddha's life.
These paintings were developed because many rich and wealthy families wanted artwork in their homes. A home is not complete in India without a painting hung somewhere in the house, and right here is one of the caves where the Ajantas are.
Wow! That's awesome! But how is it still important in India today?
Great question! These paintings are still important today because in almost every Indian home, there is an easel or paintings hung on the walls to showcase their Buddhist beliefs!
