  • His pride and unwillingness to accept his fate is his dark sad downfall that will lead him to exile.
  • Symbolism
  • Oedipus costantly tries to defy what the gods have intended for him and he avoids his destiny. He becomes king and marries his mother.
  • The audience knows about the profecy and that Laius the father is killed by his son but knowone else knows who did it.
  • The glasses represent blindness to the fact that the profecy was fulfilled yet Oedipus did not want to beleive it.
