Augustus Caesar was born on September 23rd 63 B.C in Rome, Italy in the village of Velletri as Octavian. His father was also named Gaius Octavius, and was the Governor of Macedonia. His mother was named Atia. Julius Caesar’s will declared that Augustus to be his heir and therefore be treated as his son, which is why Augustus changed his name to Caesar Augustus.
His name was earned in 27 B.C. Augustus, meaning “respected one”. When Augustus had become the Emperor of Rome, he brought peace and began rebuilding his new city and empire, and then strengthened the army of Rome and conquered most of the land around the Mediterranean Sea. Historians call him the first emperor of Rome. He is known for being one of the great administrative geniuses of history. He ruled for 41 years.
