The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street Theme: Don't make assumptions about people.
In “ The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street” by Rod Serling one of the main themes is that fear and suspicion are destructive forces.” The theme of The Monsters are due on maple street is Don’t make assumptions about people. The reason why I said don’t make assumptions about people is because the people started to think that Les Goodman was an alien and they said that the Goodmans have always been oddballs. Les Goodman says that he is not an alien but the people don’t believe him. That is how they break up their relationship with the Goodmans. They next turn to Charlie after he shoots and kills Pete Van Horn and that the lights in his house turn on. Charlie says that he didn’t know it was Pete. and that he didn’t know how his lights turn on. Then Charlie says Tommy the Fourteen year old boy is the alien which his mom Sally completely disagrees in. Everyone starts to freak out and know no one knows who the monsters were. If the people didn’t make assumptions then they wouldn’t have broken their whole town apart.
Everyone starts to think Les Goodman is the Monster because his car star but he refuses that he is the monster.
Everyone is now blaming Charlie because his house lights turn on but he blmaes Tommy.
Everyone now thinks Tommy is the monster but his mom thinks otherwise.
