  • The law authorized the president to negotiate with southern Native American tribes for their removal act to federal territory west of Mississippi River in exchange of their lands
  • The Cherokee worked together to stop this relocation. However, the Cherokee were unsuccessful in their attempt to keep their land and were eventually forcibly removed by the United States government
  • The tribes Chickasaw, Choctaw, Muscogee-Creek, Seminole, and oringinal Cherokee nations had no choice but to keep moving or they would die, if a family member died you had no time to grief. The path they took is now known as the trail of tears.
