Oedipus notices all of the destruction that the plague is doing to the city
"I know only too well that you are all sick-but sick though you may be, there is not one of you as sick as I"(7).
Oedipus sends Creon to go and see what has to be done to cure the plague
"My search has found one way to treat our disease-and I have acted already. I have sent Creon, my brother-in-law, to the prophectic oracle of Apollo, to find out by what actions or speech, if any, I may rescue Thebes"(7-8).
Good Creon, you have come back. What did Apollo say we must do?
Apollo comes back with news about how to stop the plague
"He ordered us in clear terms, to drive out the thing that defiles this land, which we, he says, have fed and cherished"(9).
"What is the nature of our misfortune? How are we to rid ourselves of it-by what rites?
We must banish, punish, execute, him. Whatever it takes to get him away from here and never have him bother us again.
Creon tells Oedipus that they have to get rid of the plague by banishing him or killing him to make sure it does not bother them again
"My curse on you! Get out of here, quickly. Away from this house, back to where you came from"(25)!
