In the paleolithic age people lived as nomads so instead of farming crops they hunted and gathered.
The first important change in food supply instead of chasing a herd of animals and amount of berries they could just plant crops and use the seeds to re-plant.
Also, hunters wouldn't get killed or injured because the animals they hunted were wild and predators. So now that they farmed there were a lot fewer deaths.
Having crops was good because now they didn't have to hunt as much or gather. Also, they would never go hungry because the food supply was so stable.
