Romes are famous for their advanced engineering accomplishments, although some of their own inventions were improvements on older ideas, concepts and inventions. Technology for bringing running water into cities was developed in the east, but transformed by the Romans into a technology inconceivable in Greece.

Roman architecture flourished in the Roman Republic and even more so under the Empire, when the great majority of surviving buildings were constructed. Roman Religion Challenged. Judaism and Christianity, while posing separate threats to the empire, had one thing in common - they both refused to participate in the worship of the Roman gods and make sacrifices at their temples.
