Today, Gilbert is getting ready to go to his first day of work as a banker, but he doesn't really know what to expect or how to be a banker.
Gilbert! Come on! You're going to be late for your first day at work!
After a few minutes of sleeping, Gilbert got up and walked to his brand new job as a banker. He met his boss, Sir. Wilden
Welcome to the bank. The main purpose of a bank for people to deposit gold, silver, or copper into our bank.
Do you know what we do, as bankers?
No, not a clue.
Right now, Gilbert is not doing too well with his job. He needs to know more about bankers, and merchants.
We used to exchange currency for crops, but now we exchange coins, of different sizes, shapes, and materials, including copper, silver, and gold, for other coins. That's the currency we use. Good try though, Gilbert.
Well, do you know what type of currency we use?
I'm not sure, do we exchange our currency for crops?
Gilbert is slowly catching on, and he's very interested on what it's like being a banker.
Whenever it's a "Red letter day" which means you get out when it is a holiday. I call it that because on the calendars it's written in red ink.
Oh, Alright. That makes sense! I have a question. What days do I get off of work?
It seems like Gilbert was made for being a banker. He is doing great on his first day!
We want local currency, right? So we know we are getting what we are owed, so we aren't being scammed.
You are right, we don't need anyone to pay us less than what we need. Especially since we are merchants. Good job Gilbert!
And Gilbert lived as a banker as happy as he could be!
Are there any risks for being a banker?
Ok, I'm still going to be a banker though.
Well, we could get scammed, but also, we could accidentally grant loans to European monarchs to finance wars. Which could be a big risk because it could start a war, or eventually bankrupt us because they would need more money for their weapons.
