In the exposition, this short story introduces Prince Prospero, which is a man who has locked himself in a castle with all of the wealthy. There is a deathly illness called the Red Death.
In the climax, the prince has thrown a ball so celebrate the people who have lived through the illness. Through the night people enjoy themselves, but later on a cloaked man dressed in old raggedy cloths appears.
In the resolution, Prince Prospero is chased down by the cloaked man who is believed to be carrying the Red Death. After being chases, the prince is moved towards a dark room and is attacked with a dagger by the cloaked man. In the end, the man himself was the Red Death, and the story shows that death is always going to occur.
