Storyboard Text

  • England was a Protestant nation ruled by Queen Elizabeth I.
  • Spain, on the other hand, was a Catholic nation led by King Philip II.
  • Mary Queen of Scots, Elizabeth's Catholic cousin, plotted to kill her, so Elizabeth was forced to execute her before anything happened.
  • Because Elizabeth killed a Catholic, Philip was very angry and decided to invade England. This began the Spanish Armada.
  • Spanish ships faced very harsh storms as they sailed around England, causing many people to die.
  • English ships were much lighter and faster than the Spanish ones. The English also had cannons, which quickly destroyed the Spanish ships.
